Drop Box to Remain Closed

Over the last several years, apartment community drop boxes nationwide have become a target for theft. Our own drop box has recently been the target of theft. As you are aware, personal checks give a lot of detail about your personal account information, identity, and address.

Although your financial institutions do have safeguards in place to combat identity theft, the process can be long, time consuming and arduous.

Money orders are also an easy target because they are essentially the same as cash. Money order theft can be even more challenging to combat especially if you have misplaced or discarded the receipt that went along with the money order.

The fraud process can take months and there aren’t any guarantees that you will get your money back. In the meantime, you are still responsible for the monthly rent regardless if it was stolen.

Due to this potential threat, we will no longer accept rental payments through our drop box. You of course still have the option of paying rent with a personal check or money order during office hours. You also have the option of paying rent anytime of the day via our online resident portal. You can visit the online portal by going to our website, www.austongroveliving.com and click on the Pay Online icon. The e-check option is completely free and secure. You will also get an e-mailed receipt confirming your payment has been made.

There are several options for rental payment in the resident portal. You can choose to set up a one-time payment or you can do a recurring payment set on your desired date (1st- 5th). You can also choose the pay what I owe option that will include your water/sewer/trash bill along with your monthly rent.

This change is being made to simply protect you against theft. If you should need assistance setting up your online account, please stop by the office or give us a call. We would be happy to assist you with this process. Thanks again for understanding and let us know if you should have any questions.

Frozen Pipes- A Cold Weather Culprit

Have you ever had the misfortune of cleaning up a smelly, wet and very cold mess on a freezing winter day? Thousands of people suffer through this nightmare every year. An eighth-inch (3 millimeter) break in a pipe can leak up to 250 gallons of water a day, ruining furniture and keepsakes. By taking a few simple precautions, you can save yourself the mess, keepsake loss and aggravation frozen pipes cause. Allow a trickle of water from your home's hot and cold faucets. Open the doors of cabinets with water pipes running through them.

If you plan to be away, set the thermostat in your home no lower than 55 degrees before you leave. If you have a patio, make sure to keep the door closed at all times to keep the hot water heater from freezing. Don't pile items on the plastic piping leading to and going from the hot water heater. They are easily broken and will result in leaks and damage to personal items.

Broccoli Cheese Dunk

  1. 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  2. 1 1/2 pounds broccoli—heads cut into 1-inch florets, stems peeled and diced
  3. 1 large garlic clove, minced
  4. 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  5. 1 teaspoon chili powder
  6. 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  7. 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  8. Salt
  9. 1 pound sliced provolone cheese
  10. Warm tortillas, for serving

Step 1

Preheat the broiler and position a rack 8 inches from the heat. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil. Add the broccoli and garlic and cook over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, until the broccoli is browned in spots and crisp-tender, about 5 minutes. Stir in the spices and oregano. Season with salt and cook for 1 minute. Add 1/2 cup of water and cook until the broccoli is tender and the liquid has evaporated, about 3 minutes

Step 2

Arrange half of the cheese in 6 individual gratin dishes. Top with the broccoli and the remaining cheese. Broil for 5 to 6 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and browned. Serve right away with warm tortillas.
